Rathinirvedam is a 2011 Malayalam coming-of-age film directed by T. K. Rajeev Kumar and starring Shweta Menon and Sreejith. The film is a remake of the 1978 film with the same name directed by Bharathan and written by P. Padmarajan based on his own 1970 novel of the same name. The film is produced by Suresh Kumar under the banner of Revathy Kalamandhir. The film stars Shweta Menon in the role of Rathi, and Sreejith in the role of Pappu. The shooting of the film was done in the Onnattukara area of Kayamkulam and Mavelikkara, where the story is primarily set.

Plot Synopsis

Pappu reached his Tharavaadu in his vacation alongwith his mother, aunty and her children. Pappu got admission in an Engineering College in the city. After vacation he had to join the college. Naaraayani and her daughter Rathi are Pappu’s neighbours. Rathi and Pappu became good friends. But on days went, there developed a love affair in Pappu’s mind towards Rathi. He with the help of Kochchummini tried several tricks for persuading her. But Rathi discouraged Pappu. Pappu was very much disturbed when a marriage proposal came for Rathi.

One day he invited her to the Kaavu. On a half-mind she reached there. Rathi was bit by a snake in the Kaavu and she died. Pappu’s uncle came to the Tharavaadu for taking Pappu back to the city. Pappu tried very much to see the dead body of Rathi, but his uncle did not allow him to see Rathi’s dead body. At last he went to the city for his higher studies.Crew
